As some of you know, I'm a Duran Duran fan. Yes, mister KISS and Iron maiden fan is also a Duran Duran fan. They are the ones who got me interested in music as a kid. There's a song I always liked and as a kid I never really cared what was the meaning of it. But now, as I'm about to add it to my repertoire for future shows, I'd like to know. Unlike A LOT of pop songwriter, Simon Lebon
rarely used first degree lyrics in songs. Most of the time, he tried to write songs that could have the meaning you want it to have. Plus, he never explained a song. He doesn't want to, especially because he wants people to get what they want from it. But I'd like to know, just to see if I'm totaly wrong, what do YOU get from that song:

THE CHAUFFEUR

Out on the tar plains, the glides are moving
All looking for a new place to drive
You sit beside me so newly charming
Sweating dewdrops glisten freshing your side

And the sun drips down bedding heavy behind
The front of your dress - all shadowy lined
And the droning engine throbs in time
With your beating heart

Way down the lane away, living for another day
The aphids swarm up in the drifting haze
Swim seagull in the sky towards that hollow western isle
My envied lady holds you fast in her gaze

(chorus) (chorus)

Sing blue silver

And watching lovers part, I feel you smiling
What glass splinters lie so deep in your mind
To tear out from your eyes, with a thought to stiffen brooding lies
And I?ll only watch you leave me further behind

(chorus) (chorus)

Sing blue silver
Sing, sing.. blue silver

(theres more to this kind of camouflage)
(more than just colour and shape)
(who?s going now, in to a classiomatic? )

The title of "Chauffeur" kind of makes a point of reference for me to look at the rest of the lyrics.

The "Tar Plains" would be the great expanses of multi-lane highways with the "glides" being cars all flowing in traffic.

The driver is probably in love (or lust) with a female passenger in the car, watching her sweat a bit... as she looks out the window.

More lusting after her as the woman the driver is staring at (probably through his mirror) looks at a plane in the air (seagull in the sky) and he probably see's a place like Manhattan as a "hollow western isle"

Silver blue silver blue would be sky, skyscraper, sky skyscraper...

And then the driver is sad as the woman of his dreams leaves the limo and heads off to the airport "I'll only watch you leave me further behind"

"Camouflage" probably refers to his uniform... and some kind of reference to the different social circles that the two of them belong to.

How do I keep getting labled as the "Bon Jovi guy"????

Yeah, I don't see Bon Jovi lyrics translating to any other language... they're not particuarly poetic or anything.... just gritty and very 'merican.

I'd be interested in how some of the more bizzarre Prince lyrics translate into foreign (or MORE foreign) languages.

Well buddy, Bon Jovi is probably my 4th favourite band after DD, Maiden and Kiss. The reference to Bon Jovi came more from that than from you.

When I was working with teens in camps I was well known for my french versions of Bon Jovi and Elvis songs. The kids liked it a lot.

Well I like Bon Jovi also.... (shadyap Jor) but I've also been introduced to people as "This is Tony.... you should hear him sing Bon Jovi"

Not "You should hear him sing. Period." no... they throw the Bon Jovi thing there.

Hey, I think I do a damned decent job with Johnny Lang, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Pearl Jam, AC/DC.... but I'm "the Bon Jovi singer".

Yesterday at work a female co worker introduced me to his boyfriend who came to give her her keys that she had forgot and she introduced me by saying to his boyfriend:It's Carl, you know the guy I told you about. The guy that has a great voice.

She then looked at me and said: Could you sing us just a little part of a Bon Jovi song, you're so good at it

wow, thanks a lot baimun,
I was thinking about some of that.
I had the main idea but my english isn't strong enough to analyse songs. Lets say that Duran Duran songs are harder to understand than Bon Jovi songs

I was thinking maybe he was working for a pimp as a chauffeur for prostitute or a client of a prostitute. But with your analyze now I think he's just a limo driver. Thanks again good Sir.

By the way, this song is a moody keyboard song masterpiece. But my acoustic guitar version sounds pretty good.

Well maybe you can help me with some of the FRENCH in some of the songs by the Police.

Rien de dormier cette nuit
Je veux de toi
Jusque'a` ce que je sois sec
Mais nos corps sont tout mouille's
Comple'tement couvert de sueur
Nous nous noyons dans la mare'e
Je n'ai aucun de'sir
Tu as ravage' mon coeur

C'e'tait gagne' trop facilement
Ca y est alors ma belle trai^tresse
Il faut que je bru^le de jalousie
Tu as ravage' mon coeur

No matter what I do
I'm still hungry for you
No matter what I do
I'm still hungry for you

Rien de dormir cette nuit
Je veux de toi jusque'a` ce que je sois sec
Mais nos corps sont tout mouille's
Comple'tement couvert de sueur

It shows that it was written by an english person. It looks like a french version of some Bon Jovi's lyrics

There are also errors (the first line just can't be said like that). But here is a little translation.
-------------

I can't sleep tonight
cause I want you
Until I'm dry
But our bodies are all wet
completely covered with sweat
We drown ourselves in the tide
I have no desire
You destroy my heart
And I drink your blood

But we can do what we want
I'll always be hungry for you
But we can do what we want
I'll always be hungry for you

The whole wide world is mine
I won it playing cards
But now i don't care
cause it was too easily won
so now my traitoresse
I'm burning with jalousy
You destroy my heart
And I drink your blood
